Nuwan Jayawickreme, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of psychology at Manhattan College in New York, NY. A clinical psychologist by training, his primary research interests broadly revolve around the impact of trauma on the individual and on the communities they inhabit. In particular, he focuses on individual reactions to political violence, and specifically what impact their cultural context may have on these reactions. Dr. Jayawickreme has studied traumatized populations in inner cities in the United States, and in Sri Lanka and Rwanda.
Dr. Jayawickreme received his B.A. in English and Psychology at Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. During his doctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania, he was attached to the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety and the Solomon Asch Center for the Study of Ethnopolitical Conflict.
